Android Market Becomes Google Play Store

Recently, many Android users may have noticed the disappearance of their Market icon from their desktop after preforming relatively routine upgrades of their software from the Android Market. For others, this may me something you will see in the near future as you choose to update your market apps.

The change is related to the renaming of the Android Market to the Google Play Store in what appears to be primarily a marketing move by Google.

In some cases, after the update, the Market icon is remaining on the desktop but the graphic of the icon has changed. In other cases, the changes aren’t seen until the updates are complete and the phone is rebooted. The differences in how the upgrade impacts the user appear to be associated with different versions of the Android OS on different devices.

If you happen to loose your icon, it can be restored by opening up your Applications menu on your device and locating the new application labeled the Play Store. Once located, press and hold on the icon until it allows you to move it to the home/desktop screens (procedures may differ slightly from one device to another).
